French hoods were worn in the second half of the 15th century, the late Tudor and early Elizabethan period. This is a berry colored embossed velvet with antique gold trim  and gold chiffon veil. The jewel has a topaz center with rubies and opals.  These have wire in them to achieve the desired shape and an adjustable elastic band that goes behind the head under the hair.
